Transmission Replacement? 1 Saabers Like This Post! Robert,
Thank you for posting at TSN!
The pinion gear failure is a very common failure with the 900 5 speed transmissions, and you are very lucky that more damage did not result!
Any missing metal substrates could be circulated with the transmission lubrication, and may damage other transmission components such as bearings, etc.
Accessing this pinion gear would take some effort, and will always be the last component removed from the 5 speed transmission. This transmission would require complete disassembly to reach the damaged pinion shaft, which is extremely time consuming, and expensive. A more cost effective alternative, may be to find a proven re-manufactured or good used transmission.
Best of luck relative to this project, and regards!
Sincerely,
Gary K. at SWEDISH DYNAMICS, INC.
