I'm going to have to bow out of this, because I am not following.
What I thought -
I broadly agree that '87-'89 boosters are potentially the same (via a VIN split), but your original post was saying to use an -'86 booster with '88 brakes - so that's be old booster, old MC, new ATE brakes. That is not a combination Saab sold. Even assuming all 1987s have the later booster, the options would be later booster, later MC and EITHER Girling or ATE brakes. So, still, at no point, did Saab sell early booster with ATE brakes. That combo would be an '86 booster on an '88 car.
Using "too big" of a MC with brakes will just make them touchy - not ideal, but functional. Using "too small" of a MC with brakes could mean literally running out of brakes, which is dangerous.
Again, I don't know any of the dimensions, I'm not smart enough to do the math - all I am asserting is that Saab didn't sell early booster/MC with ATE calipers, and I'm not seeing where you are suggesting otherwise.
If I've read it wrong, I apologize, but if so there is clearly a miscommunication I can't get past.
