I just dealt with something similar regarding hard-starting this past weekend.
A couple of weeks ago, my '87 tbo cut off one evening on the commute home in a highway section where I pull my foot off the gas and get ready to gently enter into merging traffic. Just died without any warning. But it started right up while I was still coasting and merging and I continued driving home.
But in the coming days, it got harder to start in the mornings and needed a lot of fancy footwork to keep the engine running during warmup as it seemed intent on cutting out. And the engine was hunting during anything resembling an idle.
I did some quick eyeball checks and could not see anything wrong.
It got so bad and so frustrating to drive that I disassembled the intake ducting. The problem was the 45-degree elbow hose where the bypass valve mounts. My hose had completely separated into two pieces. I think I noticed something suspicious here awhile back and then forgot to order the replacement.
The engine can barely run with a "vacuum leak" of such giant proportion.
The new part from eEuro instantly restored the car to proper function.
You might consider disassembling your intake plumbing to verify up close and personal all your connector pieces and ducting. I felt dumb for not doing that sooner.
