Is the beefy hardened part broken? Or only the sheet metal housing? I think you could easily mig weld the sheet metal housing. Any competent shop that does muffler work should be able to do this if it's a simple crack. If your driver has no play right now, it could be a good way to go. Keeps everything certain.
Otherwise, junkyard isn't a bad way to go. You could take the whole flange and the yard probably wouldn't charge you any extra, so you don't need to dink around with snap rings while you're there. I don't think you'd need to take the axle nut off, just remove the knuckle quick and dirty with a pickle fork and a 5# hammer, cut the boot with a razor knife, pull the tripod and swing it aside. Take an angle grinder or cutting torch to the shaft and you won't even have to do that - just six bolts and you're out. Easiest way if the donor is a rustbucket anyway. Check the joint for radial play before you dig in, so you don't do the work for nothing, although it's hard to say how much you'll be able to tell with the car up on blocks and suspension not compressed.
