You are turning a relatively easy fix into one that is somewhat difficult. The cover comes off ( after you exhume all the stuff in front of it ) and the tensioner body can be replaced insitu. If you are talking about taking off the housing from the gearbox casing, that is a bigass job. It's a bigass job even if the gearbox is out of the car......
However, perhaps you are just talking about removing the front cover and installing the proper gasket, not taking off the whole dang front housing, essentially cracking the two sections of the gearbox in half.
