convertible top too tight after swap

I followed the advice of having a couple pieces of 2x4 under the front of the top when stapling it back down and now my top will not fully close.
If I REALLY force it, i can get the latches shut, but natively its maybe an inch short of where it needs to be. Is there any adjustment I can make to bring it forward a tiny bit or am I back to pulling 1000 staples?
