Hello,
Removing the center console is obviously necessary. Removing one of the front seats makes it much easier. The coupler on the engine side of the firewall does restrict rotating the shifter assembly. But if you have a short T30 socket it is not too hard to remove the plastic bottem of the shifter to free the shift rod.
As far as the 3 sides nuts I have sacrificed a few needle nose pliers to removing those nut in a pinch. Cutting the end of a pipe sometimes works to make a tool but often is too soft to get them loose if they are tight.
A few other hints. Put the shifter in neutral before starting the job. If you have it in reverse the shift rod sometimes ends up on the wrong side of the reverse lock out when you reinstall it. Test the key and shifter after you get the shifter housing reinstalled to make sure you don't have a problem like that. If you need to turn the housing to remove the bottem I would remove the rubber block coupling to get the extra movement. Good Luck, Bernie
