the rubber element (see link), may have failed. Coupler can be held together temporarily with plastic zip ties until a new one can be obtained. Sometimes the coupler catches on steering rack when motor mounts are sagging. If pinch bolt on coupler has loosened, shifter control rod realignment and retightening will be needed.
