I'm occasionally having long cranking when starting for the first time and then the rest of the time very short starting. It hasn't failed to start yet but it doesn't seem normal. I've just completed some repairs on this 89 900.
Here's what I've tested ---what I know isn't wrong.
It's not a fuel delivery/check valve/pressure regulator issue or otherwise it would always take a long time to start.
I just replaced the crank position sensor because of another issue (stalling when hot, hard starting when hot but starts fine when cooled down)---it's not failing to start when the engine is hot, not stalling, etc.
tested the coolant temp sensor--meets specs in terms of Ohms--put it in water--as water temp increased, resistance dropped.
Tested Air Mass Meter---wire glows when you shut the car off.
Tested AIC valve---meets specs.
Canister purge valve is fine.
Plugs, wires, rotor, distributor cap have a few hundred miles on them. There's no oil leaking in the distributor.
Battery registers 12.6 volts. I could do a load test on it.
Since it's cranking, I doubt it's a starter.
I'm thinking it's likely something ignition related. Since it's LH 2.4 ignition, the timing isn't adjusted. I wonder if it might be an ignition switch?
