I fixed my HCV with just a new o ring years ago. Just disassemble the valve, remove the metal-rod sluice gate, and with a curved o ring pick (or jewelers screw driver), poke around the little hole at the top where the metal rod goes up and down, until you have hooked the hidden o ring. Pull the o ring out and find a suitable replacement (viton?). Make sure the replacement o ring fits snuggly around the metal rod before pushing the o ring back into position in the little hole at the top. Grease with silicon grease, and reassemble. 50c fix.
I fixed about a dozen hcv's for a local shop 20 years ago. Never had an issue.
Caution: don't be tempted to break off the plastic cap holding the o ring in place. You will never find a glue to hold it back in place, and you'll end up with hot coolant on your feet.
