I've always had convertibles and I've always kept a spare switch in the glove compartment. Trusty old WD-40 will handle most of the surface corrosion in the switch, but that's not a substitute for a good cleaning. That switch is in the perfect place to catch all the spills, rain, etc., give it a good cleaning. Sometimes, one more click on the parking brake lever will help make a good connection to a touchy on/off micro switch.
