Two (2) quick ways of authenticating a SPG: driver’s side sun visor should describe tire rating as “V-rated” (as opposed to H-rated) and there should be a sticker at the fuel cap that states “premium fuel only”. These are two hallmarks that most SPG frauds don’t have. And before anyone asks, Saab did not mfg. an SPG convertible. The convertible weights approx. 600 lbs more than the hatchback and the suspension would not support the expected performance.
I found this comment in my "files of old". I've had the headliner and visors replaced and the gas cap cover is not the original, so this would not have helped me. I do know the standard horsepower in 1986 was 160, but with the special tuning (not a red box) with the APC it was boosted to
175 hp . Not sure how you would ever measure that. Bringing a "shell" back to SPG specs. does sound like and expensive undertaking.
