Cast Iron Clutch Master Cylinder Housing Failure Posted by walt [Email] (#2707) [Profile/Gallery] (more from walt) on Sat, 29 Aug 2020 04:27:17 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
After about 3 years of in-town driving on a friends 1992 Saab 900, I noticed that the clutch pedal had a thump at the top of its stroke. Inspection showed that the piston push rod yoke still had round holes. Then noticed that the entire MC housing was loose on the firewall. When tightening up the 2 mounting nuts, both MC housing studs pulled out of housing. As shown in picture, the cast iron mounting flange on one side cracked at the stud hole. The other stud pulled out without cracking flange. Even though more expensive, it might be worth it to use OEM MC (while still available) instead of aftermarket cast iron MC.
