Hello,
That is a good question. I have seen it broken or not connected numerous times without an issue I have observed. So I have always assumed it was an extremely small redundant ground for the engine. Would be interested if someone really does know what it's designed to do, since it would have been left off and a few pennies would have been saved. Good Luck, Bernie
