Hey Saabina,
Thanks for the reply, and for confirming that the EGR delete is the way to go. Just to review, the car is registered in a no smog county (in CA), so no issues with stickers, etc. The problem is that my old mechanic retired, so I had the car towed to a new (to me) repair shop only to discover that it has collapsed down to one beleaguered guy who really doesn't want to do the EGR delete. He also revealed to me that he is charging me 3 hours @$170/hour (!!!) just for the diagnosis that the ECU is faulty. I would consider taking a crack at the EGR delete myself after reviewing the pdf that SAAB sent out to the dealers during the EGR recall in 1992, but I'm staying with friends during the pandemic and my tools are in storage in the middle of a wildfire zone. Can I just get a 948 ECU and limp the car home (about 10 miles) and deal with the EGR delete at a later date? I have a car that I can use for the moment, so the SAAB could just basically sit until the smoke clears.
