Well, it's kind of like the opposite of ABS in that we're trying to eliminate wheel spin with downforce, but you have to know if there is spin or not. If we can independently log the speed of the front and rear wheels with a speed sensor, then it will be easy to see a differential and when it's happening.
I remember having a solenoid set up to kick in extra boost, it shot up to 20 pounds after selecting 5th gear, and the car migrated from the left side of the course to the right side. The torque steer was rather frightening, or actually how quickly it set in. I think it was more loss of traction as we weren't going 150 mph with the additional downforce, so the wheels didn't hook up.
After I let up and then stabbed it again, the traction returned, and onward to the higher levels of forward motion.
The data tells it all, you just have to find a way to capture it, and then decode it to make sense of it to make driver input changes. Our class is the dumb as dirt class, so you can monitor all you want, you cannot have error correction computer decisions being made, just educated guesses, and seat of the pants control..........hope that makes sense.
