Hello,
I would think that your problem will be with the battery, starter or battery cables if the battery is dropping to 8v when you try to crank. You can the check the signal from the ignition switch at the starter. Remove the yellow wire from the starter and see if it gets voltage when the key is turned to the start position. If it is the ignition switch is good. If does not get voltage your problem could be the switch or the wiring from the switch to the starter.
Next would be to check the battery cables for a voltage drop when trying to start the car. I would test the positive battery cable first. Put one lead on the positive terminal at the battery and the other lead were the cable attatches to the starter. Then have someone turn the key to start and see what your reading is. It should be close to 0 v. If it is anything over .5v then you have excessive resistance in positive battery cable. If it reads 4v then that is why your battery is reading 8v when trying to crank.
Then I would do the same with negative cable. I would first try from the negative terminal to engine block. Then I would try from the negative terminal to the bolt were the cable attaches under the radiator. Give this a try and report back for any other hints to try. It always could be a bad starter out of the box. Did you get a Bosch starter? Good Luck, Bernie
