NM uses more sand then salt, but... would definitely make sure it is originally from NM. Just saw a supposedly "Western" 87 Saab in NM for sale that had originally came from Portland and it was rusted beyond repair. Would have them take pictures of the shaft tunnels, bottom of doors, inner wheel wells, trunk bottom, if it is a hatch back then pics of the hinges plus seal area and bottom of car to make sure it isn't an transplant from road salt using areas or close to the western coast where salt air does as much damage as road salt. If it is a NM car be prepared to replace all bushings or anything else made of rubber as guaranteed they have dry rot. I live about 2 hrs south of Albuquerque in Las Cruces and the temps get up to 115 in the summer which plays hell with rubber, tires included. Cloth seats do better than leather but may still be dry rotted, dash will certainly be cracked, roof liner may have sagged, paint will have "sand blasting" on hood, roof and other areas, windshield may be pitted from sand. We had a couple of days lately that the winds were in excess of 60 mph with TONS of sand blowing around. Air looked like the smog of Los Angeles. Here are is a picture of an 88 900T that is a NM/TX car.
