Often, the rubber vacuum hose that attaches to the rear vacuum nipple on the intake manifold splits and falls off at the nipple.
Also, check that the vacuum nipple is tight in the intake manifold. If it's very loose, the rubber bushing that holds it in has deteriorated from heat and oil and needs to be replaced.
Here's a photo of the vacuum nipple and vacuum hoses from a '90 convertible. The black vacuum line is the one that runs back to the boost gauge. Looking closely at it, it seems that this particular line to the boost gauge might be starting to split.
