Ideally you'd want to be able to take the trim piece off so it can be glued and wrapped to let the glue set properly.
I've seen a few convertible A pillar trim pieces that have started to delaminate in Pick-n-pulls. They're darned hard to remove w/o damage. Unlike the A pillar trim in the hardtops, the ones from the convertibles appear to be glued to the A pillar.
There is an '87 vert in a local yard. Next time I'm drawn to it like a moth to the flame (probably this weekend) I'll see what it takes to remove one.
