My positive post for the day: I've had a failed autobody project in the form of an '88 vert sitting in my driveway, under a cover and completely ignored it for five or so years. Tires flat, no interior, no windshield, no top, rain and mice have found their way in. It does house a completely rebuilt 1991 motor and transmission and turbo, and a boatload of other new stuff under this car as well. New steering rack, all suspension sandblasted, epoxy coated with all new rubber bushings installed, rebuilt calipers, new rotors, ball joints, tie rod ends. The list is long! The bodywork failed after countless hours of painstaking work, and I lost interest after the whole paint job blistered up. I decided I'd keep it around for its drivetrain being that I've got two other 900s. I knew sooner or later I'd need something from the driveway dweller. Well, I spun a bearing in my 90 SPG last October and that brand new engine will be just the ticket to save the SPG's life. I went out and pulled the two covers and a Harbor Fright tarp off of my once beautiful driveway 900. It looked every bit as horrible as you'd expect. Mold, water, rust on the edges. Not pretty. I went and got a known to be good battery and hooked it up. I wondered how much effort was gonna be involved in breathing life back into this now sad looking car. I cranked the key and....think it turned over twice and fired right to life! I know: new motor, why wouldn't it? Did I mention five years of absolute neglect? Five New England winters? Mouse condo? After about three minutes the lifter tic went away as they pumped up, and that motor just sat there and quietly purred away. Other than a whole bottle of dry gas when I parked it there and my covering it up, I've been a terrible steward to this old SAAB....but it must've remembered that I loved it deeply at one point, because its heart is as strong as ever....and will live again in my SPG. You gotta love a SAAB when they roar to life after half a decade coma. Glad I chose them 25 years ago. Best car choice I ever made.... Cheers, Bob
