The rewire suggestion works well, you may even be able to find a braided/woven style strap that won't vibrate into failure. Another option which I've migrated to is the solid aluminum alt.tensioner arm pivot insert that Jordan over at MCS (Modern Classic Saab) makes. It allows the alternator to ground to the block (no wire needed) and has the advantage of being a more solid mounting approach than the rubber that deteriorates over time. I've had mine in for quite awhile now and not noticed any downside from the change from rubber to metal.
