Hello!
I've been here before but if you don't know me I've got a 1990 900c 4 door automatic that quit shifting out of first awhile ago.
The symptoms then were it started having trouble getting into reverse, then clunking into first gear from a stop, then eventually stopped shifting out of first gear entirely, and the reverse wasn't getting any power.
Now here's the bit ill probably take some flack for. I've been driving the car as my neighborhood get around because I can't afford to replace the whole transmission (if I could even find one) or do a swap (again, money time and tools).
Yesterday I got in the car in the morning, started to drive to work and it happily shifted into second and third, for no discernable reason.
Later that night I took it out for a quick drive and it was shifting fine, but the reverse was still kooky. Then finally today I took it out, it shifted up into second and third, then while taking a turn thru an intersection that was particularly jumpy, it dropped back into first and is now stuck there again.
So here I am, pleading for you all to help me save this car from the scrap and figure out whats happenning.
I know the automatic gearbox is ****, I know a manual swap is what should be done, but beyond the gears just being ground down, are there any other things that could be causing it to not shift?
Is there maybe a compression issue or a blockage that would cause this? I love this car and brought it back from the brink myself when I first got it and if I had the money and tools I'd rebuild the transmission myself, but I've had this glimmer of hope that maybe it could be something else and I don't want to let it go.
So please with all my heart, does anyone have any ideas?
