OK, after I reattached my rear bumper I rolled my "Jeepers Creeper" all the way to the rear axle. Looking straight up the forward face of the tank, there were a pair of rivulets of gasoline stains. One was approx. 1/3 of the distance from the driver side of the tank (from memory, roughly where the fuel pump and lines live). The other gas stain was more or less centered on the tank, maybe slightly to the pass. side.
My fuel straps have a nice coat of rust on the threaded J hook. Having never taken one of these out, I can't tell if the hook simply slides into the end of the bracket, or is welded/crimped into the bracket. I'm sure the C900 faithful know the answer.
Finally as one person commented, I have previously checked the fuel filler hoses. No leaks were visible, and my uncalibrated sniffer couldn't find anything there.
Waiting to hear from the pair of TN vendors that claim they have tanks. Perhaps I'll get lucky and one of them will have the straps with the tank, rust free southern versions? One can dream.....
