I put up with this for years on my 1993 900T Conv. It destroyed several batteries.
Turned out to be the remnants of an after market alarm system that was added by the original owner. There was a very poorly designed motion sensor still wired to the OEM clarion. I did feel a bit silly when I finally did troubleshooting.
Meter and pulling fuses is the way to go. You probably want to short the meter when you first connect it in series with the battery as a lot have protection fuses on the current ranges and the initial surge my blow that.
