Acceleration/Battery

I purchased a 900 convertible in August and a few weeks later the car started to struggle with acceleration from slow speeds or a stop. It is fine on the highway, but stalled at stop lights and struggled to accelerate out of intersections. Then it stalled and wouldn't start up again on its own. It would start with a jump, but turn off as soon as the jumper cables were disconnected.
I brought the battery to Autozone, who said it was bad, so I purchased a new one. The new battery, though the cheapest they sell, was perfectly fine and the issue went away. Being a convertible, I haven't driven it much since September, but the battery was dead every time I tried to start it this winter. At first it would run fine after it was jumped, but the battery wouldn't recharge, even after driving it for over an hour.
I brought it to the mechanic this week, assuming the alternator was bad, but he said that it just had a bad battery and the alternator is fine. I got a new battery again today, and the car struggled to start up the first time, and again is struggling at low speeds.
Any recommendations? I called my mechanic back and he doesn't believe the issue is related to the battery, but given the history of this issue, it seems like it could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
