What's also strange is then when I tighten the adjuster the bracket seems to pull away from the motor, I guess this is because the bolts holding the bracket to the motor are only on one side of the bracket.(I understand on later models a third attachment point was added, shared with the power steering belt tensioner bracket).
The picture is exaggerated, (pivot bolts loosened too much), to show what I mean. The red line shows what happens when the adjuster is tightened. When I tighten the bracket pivot bolts after the belt is tensioned, the pulley is straighter but remains a little crooked. The tension on the belt is correct once pivot bolts are tightened to 15 foot pounds, (M8 bolt).
Would belt length be more critical then with this setup?
