1996 seat foam in 1989 seat?

I have a 1989 Saab 900 with cloth seats. My mechanic says it has seats that were only used for a couple of years and they are the same or close to the same as to Saab 9000 seats of the same vintage.

I want to replace only the foam in the drivers seat as it is old and compacted downm. I found a 1996 900 seat for a good price and low miles. The pictures look similar to my 1989 seat, as far as the overall shape, but the stitching pattern is different.

Will the foam in the 1996 900 seat work in my 1989? Just the foam, not the cloth.

If not, will the foam from the passenger side seat of my 1989 work on the driver side?

I do not have a lot of money to put in the car so I don't want to pay top dollar for a used seat from a Saab partsseller unless I absolutely need to. Plus I am not sure if the same vintage 9000 seats are identical, and if they are, I still need foam in good condition and that's not likely with a used driver seat.
