In addition to the other good recommendations .... Replace various hoses:
- There's a 90 degree crossover hose that runs to the the front of the head that gets a lot of thermal punishment. I had to replace one that had sprung a hard-to-trace pinhole leak on a 900S I had years ago.
- Replace the upper radiator hoses. They also get a lot of thermal punishment. Had to replace one that developed an aneurysm and popped in the middle-of-nowhere, PA late one Saturday afternoon.
Other things:
- Check the rubber grommets that hold vacuum nipples into the intake manifold. They deteriorate with age and oil.
- Get a spare ABS accumulator. At some point, yours will fail and will trigger an ABS trouble light.
- Get a spare heater valve. The plastic can become brittle and can break at various spots. Having antifreeze dribble on your foot is messy and unpleasant.
All that said, these cars are a load of fun to drive. I have an '89 SPG that I used as a daily driver for almost 25 years.
