Greetings! 1986 900 turbo - boot split on aftermarket axle - an EMPI from likely 15+yrs ago. Attempting rebuild - noticed tripod bearing was friction fit to axle with no circlip on shaft end. Figured I'd try an aftermarket and, if shaft length looked good, would swap in new cv and GKN tripods which are still available.

What a mess. The below pics show the Trakmotive tripod next to the new GKN. Trakmotive tripod noticeably smaller - spline numbers different as well (TM-32/GKN-25). Not familiar with the smaller tripod in use before 1986. Does the Trakmotive tripod appear to be the smaller version, or were they even smaller? FWIW, the old EMPI axle at least had the larger diameter tripod matching the current GKN.

Not putting the slightly smaller tripod in use - got to be sloppy at best, catastrophic at worst. In the meantime, in search of a used axle to rebuild for the '86...
