Old saabs don't shift like a new honda .... 1-2 shift usually tricky due to syncro wear, resulting from very high rpm drop there in the 900 ratios.
Some tips:
- be sure clutch is purged of air.
- check for wear of clutch pedal at link hole
clutch should grab no less than about 1/2 way up on pedal stroke
- Redline MTL gear oil. Light visc, ep additives, best lube choice for most, lots of satisfied users. The undisputed favorite.
- short shift (low rpm) on first 1-2 acelleration shift, esp cold start.
- Keeping trans oil about 1/2 qt shy of full helps in some cases (me)
- Mabe a short shift lever for more control ~$125 in classifieds.
