If you really want to get the proper leverage on the exhaust system, it seems to me the best way is to pull the whole thing off.
You know, just jack up the car front and back alternately, use jack stands, and remove the exhaust at the header-wastegate joining and remove whatever you need to to remove the rear section.
I don't know what else to say, i hate exhaust work, and I always seem to have the best luck if I just pull everything off and put it back together in chunks.
Sometimes a hacksaw is useful, but that's really been necessary for me on a Sonett III.
