Ok, I recently purchased an MSD BTM for my saab, the universal model. I went to install it on my car (80 turbo) and the car runs with it on, but very poorly. When i rev the engine above 2k rpms the engine feels like it wants to die like its flooding out. Watching the timing while someones revs the engine reveals that the timing is not being altered. So, I installed the BTM on my 86 spg to make sure that is not defective, and it works like a charm! No problem at all, and tremedous lag reduction when i set the intial timing to 20 degrees. Ok, heres where things get complicated. My 80 turbo was recently treated to a fresh 16v turbo motor. Since the 80 used an inductive ignition, i had to wire in the later hall effect style in order to use the 16vt ditributor. What i was able to do was basically swap the connectors on the existing harness to the later connector and fit the later ignition control unit (to inteprete the hall signal), since all the wires basically went the right places.... coil, ignition switch etc. I followed the wiring diagram for an 84. When i wired the ignition in i did not use the additional amplifier in the fuse box that the 86 and 87s have. Anyway, why is the BTM not working? My tach still works with it installed and the car runs, just like crap. Is it possible that since i added APC and LH injection too, that too many things are drawing on the Igniton signal? do i need that extra amplifier that the later cars had in the fuse box? HELP! Oh yeah, the 80 runs fine without the BTM, and with the 9000 intercooler in boosts to the end of the red zone.... hehehe. Whats going on here?
