When alternator bushings wear, the runout caused by shaking alternator accelerates failure of water pump and pulley. If there is any play in water pump bearings, i would replace with good german (hepu) pump. There are four bushings, 2 on lower bracket and two on upper bracket arm attached to timing cover. This is a "challenging" job. Go to Townsend Motors for tech Bulliten and time saver tips...I usually replace just the regulator/brush assembly for about $33 from Bosch.
