I've been driving my 86 spg with the whiney pinion bearing and a bad 2nd gear syncro for about a month now (because i have no choice) and i expected it to last a while longer.. i guess it isnt =( I was on the highway driving normally 50-65 mph and when i got off the car seemed to be under stress getting moving in 1st gear. The rest of the gears seem the same. I think i can smell burning MTL but i'm not sure... Well, i pulled over and checked the engine to make sure something didnt get disconnected and it looks like it is fine and it seems to be running ok. Once i got moving again (now with the window open) it seems i can hear *crunch, grind, crunch, etc* =( Sh*t. I'm not going to be rebuilding this trans so if it gets even worse its ok. It feels like something is flying around inside the gearbox and getting in the way of various gears becuase i can feel it. All the gears still work so i'm not sure what exactly it is that broke. Oh well... So i know that Erikkson gearboxs are $!400 after core is subtracted. What's the general price of having a gearbox put in by a saab mechanic? thanks. Any other thoughts?
