You're talking about venting the cam follower oil feeds, correct? Unless you've had headwork done on the car, there is no reason for air to get trapped in there... The system should be bled following any opportunity for air to get trapped, like pulling cam followers or the head, etc., but under normal operating conditions air should not be able to make its way up there.
Having done a few headgaskets on later cars, I've had to bleed the system in this manner, and if air is trapped this is the simple method to free it, but I've never heard this happening without major disassembly. If you've got noise, verify that it's not timing gear (chain, guides, tensioner) or even fuel injectors. If the car has extremely high miles, it could just be noise resulting from wear and tear - I listened to a '91 900S the other day with 250k on it, and the valve noise was *intense*... If that's the case, I don't think bleeding it will have any positive results.
