I posted a message about a month ago asking for advice. I got 3 replies, all with helpfull suggestions. Basically, I unplugged the fuel line leading into the fuel pump, and when I tried to turn the car over, no gas came out.

Firstly, thanks for your input. I tried what you said, and unfortunately nothing helped.

I know a guy who's an ACE certified master mechanic, he insited that the problem was my injector valve bushings. I called around, the only place that had them was over an hour away, but they only cost $3.40 for 4. I finally get them, after a week of calling and waiting, and install them in 5 minutes or so. No change.

So I ended up taking the car to the shop. They say that sure enough, the fuel pump is bad, and charge me around $300 parts and labor. They also tell me my front motor mount is broken, and that's why my distributor caps have been shattering. They give me the part, and I finally pick the car up Sunday night.

Monday morning, I'm driving back from lunch, and the engine starts surging. I have my foot to the floor, the RPM's under load don't go above 1500. With some careful shifting, and WAY too much use of the cluch, I manage to get back to work, and get the car towwed back to the shop.

Apparently the distributor cap blew again, which I thought was strange because last time that happened, the car just died on me. So they charge me $200 for a bosch cap and rotor, and the labor for installing the cap and rotor, along with the motor mount. This after I tell them not to do anything without calling me, which of course they did.

I pick the car up the following Saturday, and get it less than a mile before it starts doing the same thing. I manage to turn it around, and get it back to the shop. 2 days later, they tell me "we replaced the big fuel pump, and it turns out the little one was bad too. Since you've been straight with us, we'll only charge you $50". I've never heard of a car with 2 fuel pumps, but whatever.

I pick up the car, again, and get it home, but now it won't start. If I hold the key in start, it eventually comes to life at 6 or 700 RPM, but stalls immediately. If I try to give it gas, it stalls faster. The shop suggested I clean out the intake hose with carbuerator cleaner, I ended up using air intake cleaner. Now it comes to life faster, but stalls just as quick.

Any ideas?
