If you test drove a 900t you'd probably have the 900s for sale already. I haven't owned a 2.1 but I'm on this bb all the time and from what I've read I'd stick with the tried & true 2.0. I guess the main negative about the 2.1 is the headgaskets. I have approx 170k on my '87 spg and I drive it pretty hard every day. I expected the headgasket to go due to high miles and higher boost but it's still holding. The great thing about turbo is you don't give up gas mileage/economy unless you floor it like I do. I'd get the money out of your car before you get too many miles on it and look for a good turbo to run for the next several years.
