Paul,
I've got some experince in this department. When looking for what company or fluid to use here is what I found out. 3 months ago my dad works for Ford as a reliabilty engineer for the past 10 years and they wanted to do a Power steering/manual tranny/auto tranny/ engine oil test. The reason for this test is to see which companies, both auto manufacutres and retail sale fluids were being used by who and in what cars/trucks/vans. Some of the findings were very interesting and also scarry. The testing was done with all the manufactures ie the big 3, Valvolene, Castrol, Q-state, Penzoil and some others. (They didn't test Redline, Synergyn, Royal purple, ect.) The results were that just about all of the Big 3 were using the same thing. Which Saab now falls under. There isn't a special Ford molicule that will not make your car run good or bad in the antifreeze, steering fluid, oil or other fluids. This is what is recommended by the manufacutre. And also it is done to increase sales. If you don't purchase the MotorCraft Oil from Ford, I was told by a sales person that it "Will make the warantee invalid." Hense they make more $$ by making the consumer think their car will break if they don't by Ford Oil. After building dozens of engines/cars I have used every product on the market without problems.

Also concluded in this test was that they all performed just about the same, expept the brake fluid. Which was not in question here. Just make sure that you purchace a quality product, and not a no name "mom and pop fluid" and you will be fine. I don't want to start a major issue but I've been told this and seen this on here and the mustang board. Also depending on the plant I know Ford used Mobil 1 and at other plants Castrol on Vehicles that come off the line. Hope this helps.
