the turbine shaft RPM's are a factor as well. Remember, the shaft is floating on a thin film of oil and that there is no metal to metal contact during operation. SO after a drive, the turbo is still spinning pretty fast. Idling down for thirty seconds (1 minute if you ran it hard) allows enough time for the turbo to spool down as well as cooling the bearing.
