Hydraulic engine mounts - quieter?

I just drove an '88 Saab 900T today and noticed that the engine seemed much quieter than the mill in my '85 900T. Both cars have approximately the same mileage and attention to maintenance, so I'm wondering if the hydraulic engine mounts in the '88 really make that much of a difference?
Also, does anybody know if the '88 models had more sound deading than the '85's?
Thanks,
Matt
