Sounds to me like you might have one of two problems. They make a amp gauge you can just lay on the battery cable and see how many amps you are drawing. If when trying to start the car anything over 300 is bad, second your battery may just be tired and the car is drawing to many amps to sufficiently start the car. Consequently when it does start the alternator is working very hard just to keep enough juice in the battery to keep the car running. They also sell battery load testers to find out if under load the battery is any good, (about 40 bucks for the battery tester). Hopes this helps.
