As another poster said, it makes all the difference whether it's an auto or a manual.
The 5-speeds are very durable - I've got an '86 with 260K miles that just now is thinking of wanting a rebuild.
The auto trannies seem to be a crapshoot - some of them last a long time (200K), many don't. The consensus seems to be avoid them if possible. Of course it's tough since it seems like 75% of the 9000's for sale have them!
