As the other posters have said, do *not* put only water in the system. It will hasten corrosion, reduce protection against boiling and freezing, and cause damage to the water pump (lack of lubrication). Always use a 50% mixture of a good antifreeze like Mercedes or Saab brand.
What you *do* need to do is figure out where the coolant is going! For a car to consume coolant is not normal - if you have to top it up more than once or twice a year something's wrong.
