The '97 Aero will require the same if not more maintenance because
it's a performance vehicle and will probably be worked that much harder.
The DI problems are highly correlated with wide plug gaps. As plugs
tend to widen with use, they should be set narrower than what the maximum
is allowed - 1.1 mm. I would start at .9 mm and don't go any longer than
a year or 12k miles between changes - plugs are cheap. I get mine (NGK's)
at NAPA for 1.89 each. When the gap widens, that's when problems started
showing up with the DI's. Regardless, the '97 Aero is one of the most
impressive family sedans ever built - don't be scared away by DI stories.
The seats, alone, make it one of the most pleasurable vehicles to use
on a long trip.
