Help for a new 9000 owner?

As mentioned in an earlier post, I recently bought a 1994 9000CSE (5-speed) with just over 100,000 miles. I have a 1,000 mile warranty, but also have a used Saab dealer who appears to be less than anxious to have me in there to fix anything before those 1,000 miles are gone.
I brought the car back the day after buying it to tell him about a very loud high-pitched squeal which started to occur after driving about 50-65 miles down the highway. The noise then stopped, then started again, etc...and the guy told me to only bring it back when it's happening non-stop.)
I figure he sees a woman coming in there all alone and he isn't going to be too eager to get real about what's wrong with the car. Same with a grinding noise I hear when taking a sharp curve which upswings.
ANYWAY...my questions today are:
1.) Is it necessary to put the clutch all the way to the floor when shifting?
2.) Is it true that if I'm feeling a sort of intermittent (but consistent) "shimmy" when idling, that it's probably just because I used 89 octane gasoline and Saabs prefer high-test? (Hey, that's what the dealer told me!)
I figure I can trust you guys a whole lot more for some good strong advice. I paid $7,000 for this car, and I really need it to serve me well for another 50,000 miles or more.
Thanks very much to all of you for your help.
Julia
