latch replacement

O.K, The lock\latch on my hatchback (87 9000 turbo) is all screwy! the handle gets stuck when you try to open it. Meaning it stays squeezed, and must be manually adjusted back. It must be delicately unlocked, before it opens(only 1 out of 10 attempts though) Anyone have experience with this? Must I replace the lock, latch and handle or just latch/h . Also what about the panel that covers the lock and latch? Must I break the brackets that keep it attatched to the door? There has to be a trick! I hope I have depicted ths situation clearly, well,...... at least sorta clearly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks you rock
