hello, I bought a used 94' 9000CSE about a month ago from a private owner, the car is in excellent shape and was maintained really well. i.e - all service records and oil changed every 3000 miles. After driving this car for about a month though, it was doing the same thing you described, The temp. gauge would go up to about 3/4 of the way during normal driving. Uphill and with the a/c running it would hit the bottom of the red line but would never quite overheat. Going downhill the temp guage would go back down sometimes to normal (about halfway) and then back up going uphil again. Finally i took the car to an authorized dealer and i was told that the radiator was blocked and it would have to be replaced. It should also be mentioned that the water pump on this vehicle was reciently replaced. I was told not to keep driving the vehicle like this especially in hot weather because you can cause damage to the cylinder head (cracked head) which can be expensive to fix. Here is a site with more info. http://quasimotors.gar.net/buying.htm hope this helps.
