My 1993 cde 5spd turbo has sunroof and roof problems that I have to fix but I need advice.
When I pull the inside sunroof cover to the closed position, there are small rust flakes stuck to the liner. Every time I dust them off, open and close the cover, I get more rust flakes. That was something I could live with and did for a year and a half (that's when I bought the car.)
I noticed the paint bubbling up on the roof of the car and when I took it to a body shop guy, he gave me the bad news..... He said body work had been done on the roof before and the body filler was "coming up." Also, on closer inspection, he showed me more minute bumps forming along the roof cross members. He said he could fix it for about $400 and would use marine fibreglass that "should" last for a few years. I like the car and had hoped to keep it for more than a few years.
I was told a few times that rust proofing couldn't be used in the roof because there was no where for it to drain. But from what I've heard, there are suppose to be drain holes somewhere. So, I want to know if it's possible, after the body work, could something like Krown rust control be sprayed in the roof cavity. If there is no drainage, could it be vacuumed out?
Once that is done, I could put in a new sunroof seal. and glue back the droopy sunroof cover liner. (Is the droopy liner because of moisture? I had a 900spg 1985 that I had to change the line on twice.)
Thanks for any help or comments.
