If you're adding oil to the car and seeing smoke out the tailpipe I'll lay down a few bucks that it's the turbo. That's the classic symptom of the normal oil flow paths being blocked and forcing oil past the exhaust seal. If the smoke were coming from the engine bay I'd say your valve cover oring is shot. THe lady across the street from me was told her crank seal was leaking oil and it would be very expensive to fix. I looked around and noticed one inch of the valve cover oring was outside the valve cover! The same garage that said she needed a new crank seal had replaced the oring a couple years ago. My neighbor lady drove it with burning oil smell up until I replaced it for her. She has a 88 9000T auto w/80k miles.
